Artist Statement
Contemplating the gaze has always fascinated me as viewer of art and inspired me as an artist. To look directly into a face draws an internal connection between two people that simultaneously asks and grants permission.
My work in portraiture began as an investigation into the diversity of my own neighborhood, in an effort to make small connections. Those connections always created openings and exchanges. Some of them fleeting, some of them lasting.
Through my art I hope of offer the opportunity to gaze into the face of the other and consider our universal bonds.
