Upcoming Solo Exhibition

Beth DeWit presents a Solo Art Exhibit opening September 6th at the Ottinger Room Gallery at Croton-On-Hudson Free Library, Croton, NY. A reception and artist talk will be held September 8th 2-4 pm. The exhibit extends through October 31st during library hours.

Beth DeWit, a Peekskill-based artist is the recipient of an individual artist ArtsAlive Grant for 2023. Her paintings are rendered primarily in acrylic and known to capture the essence of local residents through portraits. Her exhibit centers on 2 recent series. "Shelter" embodies the climate crisis, engaging viewers to think deeply about the increasing storms and extreme weather events precipitated by human activity. Each painting is a portrait that also depicts the devastation caused by climate change. "A Bird in the Hand" pairs a person with a bird. Viewers are invited to consider the phrase "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush." What is already yours, inside you, that can satisfy the urge to look outside yourself in an effort to grasp for more?

Also exhibited is the Hudson Valley Triptych, a large scale work in mixed media and a sneak peek at 2 paintings which will be part of her new series, "Camouflage". The new show will open in January 2025 at the Ossining Public Library. TBA
